Recreation in a 55+ Development

Recreation amenities are one of the primary reasons that people choose to live in a 55+ development (and in some gated all ages communities).   As baby boomers retire, more and more 55+ communities are popping up, and they are bringing a new level of activities and amenities not seen in older developments.   The more expensive a community, often the more elaborate the recreation amenities, which these days can include a private lake with a marina and boat slips, an equestrian center, an Olympic-size swimming pool, a state of the art fitness center with training coaches, tennis courts, several 18-holf golf courses and putting greens, not to mention dozens of recreation clubs and planned trips.  Throw in a lifestyle director (because some people cannot direct their own lifestyle) and the package is complete.  Even less expensive communities often have a 9-hole golf course, a swimming pool, tennis courts and lots of clubs.  This is not your father's retirement anymore.
