South Carolina Taxes

South Carolina caters to its retirees.  Social Security benefits are not taxed and regular income is taxed between 3% and 7%.    Property taxes are relatively low and are based on 4% of the market value of a home and up to five acres.  Anything over five acres is taxed at 6% of the fair market value.  Homeowners over age 65 qualify for a homestead exemption equaling $50,000.
