Tennessee Taxes

Tennessee has no “broad-based” income tax. The state does charge 6% on stock dividends and income earned from bonds and other investments. Real estate taxes are assessed at 25% of the market value. Salaries, wages, Social Security benefits, pension income and IRA distributions are not taxed in Tennessee . Residents over the age of 65 with a total income $16,200 or less are exempt from the taxes on dividend and interest.
