Washington Taxes

Washington has no “broad-based” personal income tax, and retirees are not required to pay taxes on pensions, Social Security benefits or other retirement income.  Property taxes comprise 30% of the total state and local taxes, and real estate is taxed at 100% of the market value. There are, however, some tax relief programs. Although there is no inheritance tax, estates in excess of $2 million must file an estate tax return. Estate taxes may range from 10% to 19%.
