| Nestled in a valley surrounded by mountains,
Buckeye, Arizona (population 25,000) is located 25 miles west of Phoenix and
is home to a compact, active adult, Meritage Homes' active-adult community named Sundance. Open since
the fall of 2005, this development sits on 450 acres and
will eventually have 1,100 single-family
homes. This is a booming area (Buckeye has
seen its population nearly triple since 2000), but homes
are still reasonably priced. |

Sundance has nine model homes from which to choose, all with
stucco finishes (and a choice of sixteen exterior colors) that blend
into the surrounding landscape. These homes have 9 ft.
ceilings, arched windows, tiled entryways, Mission-style tile roofs
and finished, two car garages. Prices begin at $159,900 with
the Willow model home; it has a great room, a covered patio, 2 bedrooms, 2 baths and 1,135
square feet. Prices continue to climb until reaching the
top-of-the-line Mesquite, a 2,200 square foot home with 2 bedrooms,
2.5 baths and guest suite for $243,900. Call
800-255-5645 for more information or visit the website.

systems, bay windows, garage extensions, upgraded appliances and
surround sound packages.
Buckeye is hot in the summer (daytime temperatures can reach well into the 90s
and occasionally higher), but the air is dry with humidity averaging in the teens and
20s. Winters are mild, and the sun shines 90% of the time, so there is no excuse not
to get out to play a round of golf (Sundance has a beautiful, 18
hole golf course with wonderful views of the White Tank Mountains)
or to go for a walk or a bicycle ride along miles of local
trails. There is also a clubhouse with a restaurant, two swimming
pools, a library, a workout area and meeting spaces.
Crime in Buckeye is higher than the national
average, primarily because the area is growing quickly. There
is no hospital in town, but three large medical facilities are
within 30 miles in Phoneix and Glendale. Buckeye is away
from town, in the desert, so the nights are quiet, filled with
stars; during the day, the
sky is a powdery blue that stretches forever. The
population here is ethnically diverse, and the cost of living in
town is roughly 10% below the national average.
