Community Outside of Atlanta, Georgia Has Won Awards for Safety
and Design
Cost-of-Living: Below the National Average
The Legacy at Walton Village is a gated, 55+ apartment
community located in historic Marietta, Georgia, a suburb of
Atlanta. Not everyone wants to take on a mortgage
during retirement, and this well-kept community is an
alternative to purchasing real estate. The Legacy at
Walton Village has won several awards and offers elegant units
that are light and airy with high ceilings and lots of windows.

Residents here enjoy a clubhouse, a resort-style
pool, a library, a media center, a movie theater and two fitness
centers, as well as an array of social activities, planned
events, outings and classes. The grounds are lush with
trees and gardens; there is even a large vegetable garden.
Small pets (30 lbs. and under) are allowed.
In addition to being warm and welcoming, The
Legacy at Walton Village is safe and well designed. Last
year, in recognition of its construction methods and attention
to detail, the community received the "Best Practices"
award from Cobb Senior Services, the county's senior resource
organization, and the City of Marietta's police department
awarded the community its Crime Free Housing Certification.
All of which should make any retiree very comfortable calling
this community home.
Marietta dates from 1824 but was burned by
General William Tecumseh Sherman in 1864, marking the beginning
of his march to the sea. Today the city (population
68,000) is racially diverse, with some good areas and some less
desirable areas. The overall cost of living is below the
national average, but the median household income is slightly
above the national average (the crime rate is also above the
national average). The area receives 4 to 5 inches of
precipitation per month, with summer temperatures in the 90s and
winter temperatures in the 30s, 40s and 50s.
