Red Bridge Greens is an attractive, gated, maintenance-free, patio-home community for those age 55+ in Kansas City, Missouri.  With only 50 homes on 9 acres, this is a small development, and units come four to a building, unlike a town home complex in which many homes are built in rows.   All homes are ranch-style and have two and three bedrooms.  Red Bridge Greens also provides "aging in place" services, making the community a place where a retiree could comfortably reside a long time.

This community, despite its small size, has a spacious feeling.  It's a quiet place; there are no neighbors above or below any unit, and each unit only has one shared wall.  All homes (actually called "villas") are built on one level, and building exterior finishes are stucco, brick and stone.  There are eight floor plans with high, vaulted ceilings, lots of light and integrated kitchens (they open into the living area); covered balconies are at the front of each home, facing the street, and each unit has an attached 2-car garage.  Standard features include ceiling fan(s), a dishwasher, a disposal, an intercom and an electric range.  The monthly HOA fees are $175 per month and cover lawn maintenance, snow removal, building maintenance and trash pick up.  There are also some rental units available (from $1,595 per month).  Call (913) 652-4382 or visit www.redbridgegreens.net for more information.

Prices range from $299,000 to $325,000, and square footage ranges from 1,673 square feet to 1,972 square feet (available units).  Further standard features include a finished basement, a hobby area, granite countertops, custom wood cabinets, a breakfast room with a built-in buffet and a sunroom.  Homes are designed with no steps from the garage, extra wide doorways for wheelchair access, an oversized shower and lever door handles.

For an additional fee, extensive aging in place services are offered to help retirees who want to stay in their home.   Local in-home providers will come to assist with everyday chores as needed, offering help for a few hours a day or up to 24 hours a day, seven days a week.   Companionship services include preparing meals, arranging appointments, assisting with medication, writing correspondence, maintaining a calendar and organizing mail.  "Home Helper" services include helping with laundry, picking up prescriptions, making beds, appointment and shopping escorting and providing light housekeeping.  All of these services give piece of mind to residents and their families.

The community is also offering a free ($1,200 value) "de-cluttering" service, which assigns a professional organizer to local residents who need help figuring out what to keep and what to throw away when selling their home.

Red Bridge Greens has a convenient location, with many attractions, services and shops literally across the street.  Residents may patronize a grocery store, a pharmacy, a bank, a public library, a veterinarian, a coffee shop and the Minor Park Golf Course, an 18-hole public facility.  Within one half mile of Red Bridge Greens are several churches, a YMCA and numerous casual and fine dining restaurants.  Within 5 miles are five hospitals, big box stores and the Towne Center Plaza which boasts 90 stores such as Barnes and Noble, Ann Taylor and Harry and David.

Kansas City (population 2 million in metro area) is situated at the confluence of the Missouri River and the Kansas River, giving the area a humid climate.  Summer temperatures can reach the mid to high 90s, and winter temperatures may dip into the teens.  The city also has a higher than the national average chance of tornados.
