The lowest temperature on record in Montana was minus 70 and the highest was 117, with the population with a population around 935,000 people. The area was first explored by the Verendryes, Francois and Louis-Joseph, in the early 1740s This state was also acquired in the Louisiana Purchase of 1803. Western Montana was acquired from Great Britain in 1846, but American trading posts as well as forts, existed here. One famous battle, in Montana, was Little Big Horn and this is where Custer took his last stand.
Early history in Montana featured the mining of lead, copper, silver, zinc, oil and coal. Butte used to supply half of the copper used by the U.S. A lot of Montana is covered by fields of grain. It produces large quantities of barley, wheat, flaxseed, oats, rye, potatoes and sugar beets. Cattle and sheep are raised in fairly large numbers.
There are a lot of opportunities for fishing, hunting, skiing, and vacationing on a dude ranch, in Montana. Contained in Glacier National Park are 200 lakes, 60 glaciers, and lots of trout fishing streams. A few of the many sights to see here are Little Bighorn Natl. Monument, Yellowstone National Park, Virginia City, the Museum of the Plains Indians (Browning), Ft. Union Trading Post, and Grant-Kohr's Ranch natl. historic sites.
