The Village at the Glens
is a gated golf resort community that is not
age-restricted but tends to attract a more mature
demographic (owners are a mix of vacation owners,
second home owners and retirees). The primary draw
here is the Heather Glen Golf Course, a
championship, 27-hole (3 nines) course that has won
numerous accolades, including being named by Golf
Digest as the "#1 Public Golf Course in
America" when it opened in 1987, and all
residences are nestled along its fairways.

In addition to the Heather Glen Golf Course, homeowners have access to three
other championship courses - the Shaftesbury Glen Golf and Fish Club, the
Possum Trot Golf Course and the Glen Dornoch Waterway Golf Links, which is
right next door. With 48 hours' notice, owners play for free, except for
the golf cart fee, as do three family members or guests (a dress code is in
place). There are, though, dues of $350 a year. Residents
also have access to a practice facility complete with a driving range, putting
green, chipping and bunker area. The Heather Glen Pub is also the home of
delicious breakfasts and lunches, not to mention an array of cocktails.
The Village at the Glens Golf Resort is located in Little River, just north
of Myrtle Beach. The Grand Strand, a 60 mile stretch of beaches with
hundreds, if not thousands, of restaurants, shops, theaters, hotels and more
than 200 golf courses, begins in Little River and is a popular tourist
destination. This is the place for a fun, active retirement!
For those without a car, Coast RTA provides local bus service throughout the
Strand.

averages 66 degrees. The average January high is 56 degrees, and the
